TeaM Energy’s Key Challenges in Energy Operations

Navigating the complexities of energy operations in a rapidly evolving industry posed significant challenges for them. They needed robust solutions to optimize operations and ensure compliance while maintaining profitability. Some of their key Challenges are:

    • Regulatory Compliance:

      1. Their compliance with evolving regulations. ERC, DOE, and WESM’s year-on-year publish new policies, regulations, and guidelines that every market participant has to adhere to.
    • Diverse pricing structure:

      1.  Managing and calculating various pricing structures accurately can be complex and error-prone.
    • Data Integration Challenges:

      1. Integrating data from various sources, such as meter readings, and market data, can be challenging.
      2. MMS data is available via API, MPI, IEMOP website, or subscription, this can be a challenge to their non-technical users
      3. Ensuring that all data is up-to-date and accurate is essential for billing accuracy.
    • Manual Generation of Invoice

      1. Their generation and submission of invoices is quite tedious since they also have a lot of customers.
    • Data Security and management:

      1. Protecting customer data is highly important, having all those Excel sheets being shared and passed around across departments is a possible security vulnerability.
    • Manual Processes and inaccurate Billing:

      1. Manual billing processes are time-consuming and susceptible to human errors. Inaccuracies can result from various factors, such as meter reading errors, data entry mistakes, or system glitches. These errors can lead to disputes with customers and regulatory penalties.
    • Data Silos:
      1. Information is stored in separate systems or departments, making it hard to access or share across the organization. This separation limits collaboration, decision-making, and overall efficiency.
    • Data Quality:
      1. TeaM Energy manages a large amount of data, and data quality is a challenge. Some of their data is inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated, which can result in poor decisions, mistakes, and inefficiencies in their operations.
    • Historical Data Management:
      1. Past data is poorly organized, making it hard for them to access, analyze, or use for long-term planning. This led to missed opportunities, inefficiencies, and less accurate forecasts in their system.

Overcoming TeaM Energy’s Challenges with Digital Transformation Solutions

TeaM Energy embarked on its digital transformation journey by first implementing Data Warehouse and automating its billing processes using our eBillsync product. This marked the beginning of embedding digital transformation at the core of their operations. To address their distinct challenges, we developed customized digital transformation solutions, including:

    • Data Warehouse – By leveraging IEMOP, external, and transactional data, they can now harness the power of analytics, enabling them to access critical insights derived from a robust data warehouse.
    • Data Management Solutions With an in-place data analytics platform, Team Energy now enjoys comprehensive data management capabilities. These allow them to efficiently organize, store, and analyze vast amounts of energy-related data, including IEMOP market data, CRSS metering, and settlement data, as well as external sources like weather forecasts, forex, and other third-party data inputs. Additionally, the platform enables seamless data visualization on Tableau and Power BI, providing clear, actionable insights through interactive dashboards.
    • Easier Management of Billing Determinants/Variables – They can now flexibly manage all essential billing parameters such as PH-CPI, Forex, US-CPI, Global Coal Index, Time-of-Use Rate, DU Generation Rates, and other parameters, all while tracking historical determinant values and reusing these values consistently across all contracts.
    • Smooth Processing of CRSS Metering and Settlement Data Managing CRSS metering and settlement data is now easier, they can now handle CRSS ZIP and CSV files smoothly, ensuring a hassle-free experience.
    • Streamlined Invoice Generation and Submission The use of end-to-end billing automation will now help them significantly reduce manual intervention. They can now automatically generate and process electronic invoices/receipts easily in accordance with BIR format.
    • Flexible Pricing Structure and Billing Statements Setup Team Energy can now flexibly create billing computations based on contracts and easily adjust the power bills generated by the system to meet client requirements.
    • Integration- Ready Platform Their Energy Billing platform can be easily integrated with various ERPs like SAP, and NetSuite whether via API or batch file generation.
    • Line Rental and NSS Allocation Processing A significantly shortened the time required to process thousands of data points and perform complex calculations with an automated Line Rental and NSS allocation process based on the customer’s GESQ or BCQ, using CRSS Settlement Data.
    • Integration with MMS and IEMOP Market Data – They can now access MMS data via API and crawl the IEMOP Market Data website, ensuring comprehensive availability of market-related information.
    • Actionable Market Data Insights – With comprehensive report dashboards, they have significantly enhanced their decision-making on market prices, spot quantities, offered prices, and other critical market data.
